Use AssistCall with athenahealth
AssistCall answers your business calls 24/7 and works alongside athenahealth: forwarded calls get answered, booked or noted, with a summary of every call by email.
athenahealth: athenaOne is a cloud EHR, practice management and medical billing system used mainly by independent and ambulatory physician practices.
Works alongside
Example call
A patient calls at 9 pm about a refill; AssistCall takes the message and marks it routine; the front desk reads the email summary in the morning and handles it in athenaOne.
- Forward the practice line to AssistCall after hours or during lunch, so callers get a receptionist who takes a message instead of a voicemail box.
- Transfer callers who say their problem is urgent to your on-call number, and take routine messages for the morning.
- If your IT vendor already has approved athenahealth API access, send AssistCall's signed message.taken webhook to their service so it can file the message in athenaOne.
How it connects
- Call forwarding: Forward your business line to AssistCall when busy, after hours or always. Works with any carrier.
- Webhook: Signed JSON for every call, message and booking, sent to any HTTPS URL you choose.
About athenahealth's API
- Partner API: the vendor approves access
- Style: REST (athenaOne APIs) and FHIR R4
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0 (client credentials for backend apps, SMART on FHIR authorization code for user apps)
- On Zapier: no. On Make: no.
Anyone can register on the athenahealth Developer Portal and get Preview (sandbox) credentials. Production access to the athenaOne APIs needs an athenahealth Platform Services contract or Marketplace Partner Program approval, plus each practice's signed authorization, and athenaOne API calls are billed by volume. Certified FHIR APIs are free but mostly read and search. Push Event Notifications exist but need an API Solutions contract. AssistCall is not an athenahealth partner. A live athenaOne link is only possible if your practice or its IT vendor already holds approved credentials and builds a service that receives AssistCall webhooks. No Zapier or Make app. HIPAA: AssistCall does not offer or sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Patient calls, recordings, transcripts and summaries can contain protected health information, so a HIPAA covered practice should check with its compliance advisor before forwarding patient calls to AssistCall or sending call data into athenaOne.
Not included: no one-click athenahealth app, no listing in athenahealth's marketplace, no two-way sync, and no partnership with athenahealth, Inc..
