Use AssistCall with Epic
AssistCall answers your business calls 24/7 and works alongside Epic: forwarded calls get answered, booked or noted, with a summary of every call by email.
Epic: Epic is the EHR used by many US hospitals and health systems, and by affiliated clinics that use it through their health system.
Works alongside
Example call
A patient calls the clinic after hours; AssistCall takes a message and transfers anyone who says it is urgent to the on-call line; staff read the email summary the next morning and follow up in Epic.
- Forward a clinic's main line to AssistCall after hours, so callers reach a receptionist who takes a message.
- Transfer callers who say it is urgent to the on-call number you set.
- Answer routine questions such as clinic hours, parking and directions, and email staff a summary of each call.
How it connects
- Call forwarding: Forward your business line to AssistCall when busy, after hours or always. Works with any carrier.
About Epic's API
- API on enterprise plans only
- Style: FHIR R4 (plus DSTU2 and STU3)
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0 (SMART on FHIR; backend apps use signed JWTs)
- On Zapier: no. On Make: no.
Registering an app on Epic on FHIR is free for developers. The app only works at an Epic customer after that organization, which must have signed the open.epic API Subscription Agreement, requests the app's client ID, and backend apps need keys set up for each customer. Small practices on Epic usually reach it through a hospital or health system, whose IT team controls API access. AssistCall has no Epic app and cannot read or write Epic records. No Zapier or Make app. HIPAA: AssistCall does not offer or sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Patient calls and their summaries can contain protected health information, so a HIPAA covered practice should check with its compliance team before forwarding patient calls to AssistCall.
Not included: no one-click Epic app, no listing in Epic's marketplace, no two-way sync, and no partnership with Epic Systems Corporation.
