Use AssistCall with Dialpad
Keep your Dialpad number. Forward it to AssistCall when you're busy, don't pick up or after hours, and every call gets answered, booked or turned into a message, with a summary by email.
Dialpad: AI-based cloud phone system and contact center with built-in call transcription, used by sales and support teams.
Connects
Example call
A caller rings a marketing agency's Dialpad main line while the team is in a meeting. No operator answers, so the fallback sends the call to AssistCall, which takes the project details and adds the caller as a Dialpad contact.
- Set the main line's Closed Hours Routing to your AssistCall number so after-hours callers are answered (after Dialpad support enables external numbers).
- Set the main line's fallback to AssistCall so calls no operator answers during business hours go to the receptionist instead of voicemail.
- During a call, the receptionist creates a Dialpad contact for a new caller through Dialpad's API with your admin API key, so the name shows when they call again.
How it connects
- Call forwarding: Forward your business line to AssistCall when busy, after hours or always. Works with any carrier.
- Live API actions: During the call, the receptionist calls the app's API with your key to look up or create records.
- Zapier: Send AssistCall events to a Zap (Webhooks by Zapier, Catch Hook), then use the app's Zapier actions. Needs a paid Zapier plan.
- Make: Start a Make scenario with a custom webhook and use the app's Make modules.
- n8n: Start an n8n workflow with a webhook node, then call the app with its node or an HTTP request.
About Dialpad's API
- Self-serve API: you can create a key in your account
- Style: REST, plus webhook event subscriptions (call, SMS, contact events)
- Authentication: API key sent as a Bearer token, created by a Company Admin with an expiry the admin chooses; OAuth for third-party apps needs Dialpad approval
- On Zapier: yes. On Make: yes.
Company Admins on Pro and Enterprise plans create keys under Admin Settings > My Company > Authentication > API Keys, set the expiry and scopes, and copy the key once. Pick a long expiry and replace the key in AssistCall before it lapses. A third-party review reports a limit of about 20 requests per second per company. Zapier's Dialpad app has a Create Contact action; Make's Dialpad app has about 40 modules. Forwarding: Admin Settings > Main Line > Business Hours & Call Routing > Edit Call Routing; set Closed Hours Routing, or the fallback when no operator answers, to 'team member / room phone / external number' with your AssistCall number. Dialpad says routing to numbers outside Dialpad must first be enabled by its support team.
