Use AssistCall with RingCentral
Keep your RingCentral number. Forward it to AssistCall when you're busy, don't pick up or after hours, and every call gets answered, booked or turned into a message, with a summary by email.
RingCentral: Cloud business phone system (RingEX) with calling, texting, video and team chat in one app, used by small offices up to large companies.
Connects
Example call
A patient calls a dental office's RingCentral number at 6:30 pm. After-hours handling forwards the call to AssistCall, which books a cleaning, and a Zap texts her the confirmation from the office's RingCentral number.
- In the RingCentral app's call handling settings, set missed calls and after-hours calls to 'Forward to external number' with your AssistCall number, so callers reach the receptionist instead of voicemail.
- When AssistCall books an appointment, a Zap uses RingCentral's Send SMS/MMS action to text the caller a confirmation from your business number.
- Post every call summary to a RingCentral team chat with Zapier's Create Post action, so the office sees messages taken overnight.
How it connects
- Call forwarding: Forward your business line to AssistCall when busy, after hours or always. Works with any carrier.
- Zapier: Send AssistCall events to a Zap (Webhooks by Zapier, Catch Hook), then use the app's Zapier actions. Needs a paid Zapier plan.
- Make: Start a Make scenario with a custom webhook and use the app's Make modules.
- n8n: Start an n8n workflow with a webhook node, then call the app with its node or an HTTP request.
About RingCentral's API
- Self-serve API: you can create a key in your account
- Style: REST, plus webhook and WebSocket event subscriptions
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0; a JWT credential (can be set to never expire) is exchanged for access tokens that expire within hours and must be refreshed
- On Zapier: yes. On Make: yes.
Anyone with a developer account can create an app and JWT credential, but every API call needs a short-lived access token (about 1 to 2 hours), so AssistCall can't call RingCentral live with a fixed header; use Zapier (Send SMS/MMS, Create Contact, Create Post), Make (RingCentral app) or n8n instead. Business texting through RingCentral needs carrier (TCR) registration. Forwarding: in the RingCentral app go to Settings > Phone > Call handling; set a work-hours schedule, then under Missed calls choose 'Forward to external number'. 'Forward all calls' (profile picture > Incoming call rules) can run on a schedule. A RingCentral community answer says the company auto-receptionist can't forward straight to an outside number, so route the main number to a user extension and forward that extension.
