Use AssistCall with Zoom Phone
Keep your Zoom Phone number. Forward it to AssistCall when you're busy, don't pick up or after hours, and every call gets answered, booked or turned into a message, with a summary by email.
Zoom Phone: Zoom's cloud phone system, added to Zoom Workplace so a business can make and take calls in the same app it uses for meetings.
Connects
Example call
A prospective client calls an accounting firm's Zoom Phone number on Saturday. Closed-hours handling forwards the call to AssistCall, which books a consultation for Tuesday, and a Zap texts the client the time from the firm's Zoom number.
- Under Closed Hours call handling, forward calls to your AssistCall number so evening and weekend callers are answered instead of reaching voicemail.
- Under Business Hours, set unanswered calls to forward to AssistCall so calls nobody picks up get answered, booked or turned into a message.
- When AssistCall books an appointment, a Zap sends the caller a text confirmation from your Zoom Phone number with the Send SMS Message action.
How it connects
- Call forwarding: Forward your business line to AssistCall when busy, after hours or always. Works with any carrier.
- Zapier: Send AssistCall events to a Zap (Webhooks by Zapier, Catch Hook), then use the app's Zapier actions. Needs a paid Zapier plan.
About Zoom Phone's API
- Self-serve API: you can create a key in your account
- Style: REST, plus webhook events for phone calls
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0; Server-to-Server OAuth access tokens expire after one hour with no refresh token
- On Zapier: yes. On Make: yes.
An account admin can create a Server-to-Server OAuth app, but its tokens last one hour, so AssistCall can't call Zoom's API live with a fixed header; use Zapier's Zoom Phone app (Send SMS Message action, call and voicemail triggers) instead. Make's Zoom app has phone-call watch and list modules only. Forwarding: in the Zoom web portal go to Phone > Settings, then Edit next to Call Handling under Business Hours or Closed Hours; under 'When a call is not answered' choose to forward, then Add Phone Number with your AssistCall number. Uncheck 'Require to press 1 before connecting the call', or the receptionist will be asked to press 1. Business and closed hours are separate settings, and calls forwarded to outside numbers may be billed under your calling plan. Steps are from Zoom's call handling docs and university IT guides; we did not retrieve Zoom's own support article.
Not included: no one-click Zoom Phone app, no listing in Zoom Phone's marketplace, no two-way sync, and no partnership with Zoom Communications.
