Use AssistCall with Help Scout
AssistCall answers your business calls 24/7 and can send each call, message and booking to Help Scout through Zapier, Make, n8n.
Help Scout: Shared inbox and help desk for small support teams, with email, live chat, a knowledge base and customer profiles.
Connects
Example call
A customer calls with a billing question while the team is offline. The receptionist takes the message, and a new conversation appears in the Help Scout billing inbox with the summary and recording link.
- Open a Help Scout conversation in the right inbox for each message the receptionist takes, through Zapier's Create Conversation action, Make or n8n.
- Add or update the caller as a Help Scout customer from lead.captured events with Zapier's Find or Create Customer action.
- Add the call summary and recording link to the conversation as a private note with Zapier's Add Note action.
How it connects
- Zapier: Send AssistCall events to a Zap (Webhooks by Zapier, Catch Hook), then use the app's Zapier actions. Needs a paid Zapier plan.
- Make: Start a Make scenario with a custom webhook and use the app's Make modules.
- n8n: Start an n8n workflow with a webhook node, then call the app with its node or an HTTP request.
- Call forwarding: Forward your business line to AssistCall when busy, after hours or always. Works with any carrier.
About Help Scout's API
- Self-serve API: you can create a key in your account
- Style: REST (Mailbox API 2.0)
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0; client credentials from an app under Your Profile > My apps
- On Zapier: yes. On Make: yes.
Create an app under Your Profile > My apps and exchange its ID and secret for a token. Client-credentials tokens last two days, so AssistCall connects through Zapier, Make or n8n rather than live lookups with a fixed token. The pricing page lists API limits of 200, 400 or 800 calls per minute depending on plan. Webhooks are set up in the Webhooks app under Workspace > Apps.
Not included: no one-click Help Scout app, no listing in Help Scout's marketplace, no two-way sync, and no partnership with Help Scout.
