Example call

A caller asks whether their order has shipped. The receptionist sends the order number to the store's n8n webhook, the workflow looks it up in the store's database and replies with the shipping status, and the receptionist passes it on. The owner can see each lookup in the workflow's Executions tab.

• Start an n8n workflow from every call.completed event and write the caller, summary and recording link to your CRM, database or spreadsheet with n8n's app nodes or an HTTP Request node.
• During a call, the receptionist posts the caller's question to an n8n webhook that checks your own database (for example with the Postgres node) and gets the answer back from a Respond to Webhook node.
• Verify each event's signature, then send message.taken events marked urgent to SMS or Slack and the rest to email.

How it connects

• Webhook: Signed JSON for every call, message and booking, sent to any HTTPS URL you choose.
• n8n: Start an n8n workflow with a webhook node, then call the app with its node or an HTTP request.
• Live API actions: During the call, the receptionist calls the app's API with your key to look up or create records.
• Call forwarding: Forward your business line to AssistCall when busy, after hours or always. Works with any carrier.

About n8n's API

• Self-serve API: you can create a key in your account
• Style: Inbound webhook URL (Webhook node), with an optional Respond to Webhook node
• Authentication: The Webhook node can require Header Auth (a fixed header name and value), Basic auth or JWT, or nothing. Credentials you set don't expire.
• On Zapier: no. On Make: no.

The trigger that receives AssistCall events is the Webhook node, which is on every plan. Cloud plans start at EUR 20 a month billed yearly (Starter, 2,500 executions a month), and the self-hosted Community Edition has no license fee. Paste the production URL into AssistCall. It only works once the workflow is published, while the test URL only listens while you are testing in the editor. AssistCall's event deliveries can't add custom headers, so set that Webhook node's authentication to None and respond Immediately. You can check the X-AssistCall-Signature header with the Crypto node (HMAC SHA256) or a Code node. For live lookups during a call, use a second Webhook node set to respond 'Using Respond to Webhook node', protect it with Header Auth saved in AssistCall's API action, and answer within about 6 seconds. Payloads can be up to 16 MB.

Not included: no one-click n8n app, no listing in n8n's marketplace, no two-way sync, and no partnership with n8n GmbH.
